Abelli´s Magic Theatre was established by Anders Olsson and Bissa Abelli in 1979. From then onwards we have been touring around Sweden regularly. We have also
given several guest performances in Europe, the USA, Indonesia and Japan.
Since 1983 the theatre has done more than 3000 performances in the theatrebus,
from Sevilla in the south of Spain to Karesuando in the far north of Sweden.
More than 150 000 people have visited the theatrebus. Our main source of inspiration
is folktales and folkmusic from all over the world. We started off giving street performances, which are still in our repertory. Today Abelli´s Magic Theatre
is a well-known and established theatre, devoted to performances for children.

We can do a short act or a whole day program. We
cooperate with organisers to accommodate with any
requests, to make the most on every particular occasion.

This is a Japanese folktale dramatised for puppet theatre in the theatrebus.

Once upon a time far away
in Japan, an old man and his old wife lived in a small cottage at the feet of the holy mountain Fujisan. The old man had a pet sparrow, which he called Suzumesan....

This is how the fairytale about the fairy sparrow begins. We are brought into an exciting adventure from the country of the rising sun, a world where anything can happen.

The play is enacted with puppets, made in the style of the classical Japanese Bunraku,
a craft which is more than four hundred years old.

The performance is meant for children from the age of five. However, it's also
well suited for children of higher ages and adults. It's performed in the theatrebus,
which is a fully equipped theatre on wheels, with a stage and seats for 40 adults
or 50 children. To be able to perform – all we need is a flat parking spot
in a quiet area, and access to electricity (10 ampere, 240 voltage) earthed.

Director: Bissa Abelli
Puppets: Thomas Lundqvist
Puppeteers: Anders Olsson and Fatima Olsson
Music: Anders Olsson and Yasha Yukawa
Duration of play: 40 minutes
Time of preparation and closing: 15 min
We prefer to give three performances a day, which can take place in different locations.
